Marla Lise is a global educator, eco-literary advocate, and good faith communicator. With a deep love for nature and the planet, and over two decades in language education, conservation, and sustainability, she uses words as the basis to drive systemic change.

Sitting at the intersection of language and science, her work bridges the gap – making complex concepts accessible to many. She is working to build a world of understanding, communication, reciprocity, and connection through her company The Eco Chapter.

She is the editor and co-author of the book, Dreams of Unwritten Futures, which is the first book in what she hopes to grow into a Better Future Narratives project.

In The Eco Power of Words, Marla Lise explores how sustainability narratives shape perception, behaviour, and decision-making – often limiting our capacity to respond meaningfully to ecological and social challenges. Drawing on environmental education, storytelling, and systems thinking, this keynote reveals how language can either distance us from the natural world or deepen our sense of connection, care, and responsibility. The talk shows how intentional language can cut through greenwashing, restore agency, and inspire regenerative action through reflective storytelling and real-world examples.

Voices of the Community

"Thank you, Marla Lise - it was great having you at the Royal Geographical Society–Singapore. I knew from the start that your voice and vision needed to be heard, and I’m so grateful for your time and amazing work. You have a powerful way of making the Anthropocene not just a concept, but a deeply human call to action. Thank you for inspiring us to imagine - and co-create - a better world."

My wife and I very much enjoyed Marla Lise's Anthro-Oh No talk. Marla is an engaging speaker, and the way she mixed humour, storytelling, and hard truths about the environment kept the whole room hooked. It was thought-provoking without feeling heavy, and her energy made it genuinely fun to listen to. We both came away feeling inspired - her call to action really stuck with us, reminding us that small conscious choices can add up to something bigger.
