Dr. LAKSHMI'S KeyNote:

Dr. Lakshmi Ramachandran’s speaking journey started during her late teens as a science student. Her ability to break down complex science concepts and present information to the audience through interesting stories and analogies has won her prizes for best talks and posters. Her talks eventually evolved to portray the human factor in science- essentially the life of people in science.

She thinks it is important to bring to light the real challenges and successes of people in science, especially women in science, to inspire, educate, and impact policies to make science more inclusive and beneficial to all. She stands out as an impactful story teller in science and has spoken at schools and universities on science careers beyond academia (Changing Lanes and Shifting Gears in Science Careers), science communications, and advocacy.

More recently she has transitioned as a KeyNote Speaker on the topic “From Challenges to Meaningful Changes”.  In this KeyNote, through her own personal story, she highlights the five P’s- ‘Personal Ownership, People, Perceptions, Policies and Practices’, essential to resolve the issue of women’s under representation in the workforce. In addition, her personal stories on grit and compassion, especially her encounter with the devastating floods in Kerala, India (Aug 2018), have touched and inspired many a heart.

Dr. Lakshmi Ramachandran, PhD in Cell & Molecular Biology (USA) has over two decades of experience in diverse areas of science such as academic and pharma research, communications and research programme management. She is an advocate of STEM and actively promotes people in science as ambassador of the global ‘storiesinscience initiative and as a co-lead organizer of the Gender Summit Asia Pacific, 2019 Singapore (GS16).

Her uniqueness lies in her versatility. She is a writer, speaker, model, role model, poet, and mother of two young boys. She shares her personal experiences within and outside of science through her blog ‘Assorted Life Flavours’ on She has co-authored a unique memoir-cookbook called 'Roomies/Foodies', a witty and informative survival guide for Indian students going abroad. Born in India, brought up in India and the Middle-East, educated in the US, and living in Singapore for the last 7 years, she is a global citizen, passionate about a better, peaceful and equal world.

As the Master of Ceremonies and Event Host at a recent Singapore conference with over 120 academics and working professionals, Dr Ramachandran was one of five speakers on the program agenda. I can state from my front row vantage point that she hit the mark with her message of hope, magnificence and impact that professional women in Academia and Sciences bring to local and global communities.
Lakshmi has a wonderful presence as a keynote speaker, a cadence in her presentation that is easy to follow and wonderful stories of courage, compassion and never giving up on ones dreams to make a difference.

She did a great job of inspiring the attendees and her timing in her TEDx style presentation was spot on. Her words and style are what helped us to receive a standing ovation once the conference concluded.
After hearing her first hand as the MC / event host at this SE Asia conference I highly recommend Lakshmi as a speaker to inspire any audience to live more fulfilling lives.

I have been an avid follower of Dr. Lakshmi Ramachandran’s career path since I heard her frank and engrossing talk about the leaky career pipeline that women face and how she has dealt with it in her career, which was presented at the NUS Mechanobiology institute. Her stupendous growth as a scientist, STEM researcher, scientific writer, an author, keynote speaker while also giving importance to one’s own personal growth is sure to inspire many more women in following their dreams of achieving that seemingly impossible, life-work integration!

One personal quality that I admire in her, is that she is not afraid to show her vulnerable side, and openly discuss about her insecurities and issues that she faced in her career path- something which each woman can relate to, and how she successfully overcame all that to become stronger and better! The world could do with more such strong women like her on the forefront!
